Snorkel in Mallorca: Cala Estellencs

The town of Estellencs is located just 17 km north of Andratx and is accessible via the Ma-10 motorway. Estellencs becomes part of an itinerary through the Tramuntana mountains.

Cala Estellencs is a small rocky inlet nestled between red clay cliffs. It is 80 meters long and 15 meters wide.

Half of the cove serves as a dry dock and is occupied by fishermen’s huts. Due to this, we cannot consider it a virgin cove. On the other side of the cove, there is a terrace with a railing that serves as a viewpoint.

The cove offers an expanse of open sea with very clean and clear waters. The seabed is rocky and moderately deep. There is a diverse array of marine life close to the coastline. There are also underwater caves within the cliffs bordering Cala Estellencs.

When swimming, be aware that if the wind blows from the west or northwest, the cove becomes very exposed.

How to arrive:

Look for the indication to Cala Estellencs in the town, just in front of the Maristel hotel. To reach the cove, you need to walk for about 5 minutes. The path begins with a sign at the town’s entrance. It is advisable to leave your car in the town. Once you arrive at the cove, there’s space for no more than ten cars at the beach parking.

Snorkel in Mallorca: El Delta – Maioris

This beach area in Llucmajor, south of Mallorca, takes its name from the nearby Hotel Best Delta in the Maioris urbanization.

The water around this rocky coast is clean, transparent, and of a suitable depth. Therefore, it’s ideal for snorkeling, making the place one of the favorites for practicing this sport.

There are no facilities on the beach. It is 200 meters long and 10 meters wide.

The seabed varies, with some areas of sand and others of rock. The irregular shape of the coast forms natural pools.

A diverse variety of fish and marine life, including flounders and octopuses, can be found here. This is one of the most popular snorkeling spots on the island.

How to arrive:

To arrive from Maioris you can park the car near the Mhares Sea Club. Then you have to walk through any of the several paths which lead to great rock formations. To descend wear suitable shoes in order to avoid slipping.

Cala Varques is located 13 km from the city of Manacor. It is.considered one of the most beautiful places for snorkeling on the eastern coast of Mallorca.

The cove is 44 meters long and 50 meters wide. It features white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The cove is surrounded by cliffs and a pine tree forest.

The cove offers excellent snorkeling spots along its rocky edges. While exploring the area, you will discover sea caves with stalactites and a breathtaking large stone arch.

How to arrive:

From Manacor take the road MA4015 until the intersection with Ma 4014, which is the road that goes from Portocristo to Portocolom. You are not allowed to park your car on the road or on the Portocristo motorway. You will have to leave the car two detours on this road and walk for about 4 kms. to arrive to the cove.

Snorkel in Mallorca: Port Des Canonge

Port des Canonge is a small town located in the municipality of Banyalbufar, next to the Serra de Tramuntana on the western side of Mallorca.

The beach is 70 meters long and 20 meters wide. Walking about one kilometer to the west, you’ll discover the best spots for snorkeling.

Exercise caution as you are in the open sea where currents can become strong if you venture far from the coastline.

The seabed is rocky and teeming with marine life.

How to arrive:

Starting from Esporles, take the MA 1100 road towards Banyalbufar. At the MA 10 junction, turn left towards Banyalbufar. After 400 meters, there’s a right turn to Port d’es Canonge. Drive 5 km to a small area, then head to the coast for the cove.

Snorkel in Mallorca: Sa Calobra

The cove of Sa Calobra takes the name of a village located in the Serra de Tramuntana, in the northeast of Spain.

It is nestled between two enormous vertical walls that are over 200 meters high. It’s only 10 meters long and 25 meters wide. The place is formed by the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis, which rushes down, creating the large boulders that make up the beach.

When the waters are calm, it’s recommended to dive and swim alongside the cliffs that stretch to the right, while gazing at the horizon. This area quickly gets deeper, with various rocks and a diverse range of fish.

Since the allure of Sa Calobra lies in its proximity to the cliffs, it would be dangerous to go snorkeling under unfavorable sea conditions.

How to arrive:

Starting from Escorca, take the MA 10 road towards Sóller. After about 6.2 km, turn right at the sign that says “Sa Calobra.” This road, known as MA 2141, is around 12 km long and winds down through the mountains to reach Sa Calobra.

This cove is located 3 km away from Peguera on the western part of Mallorca. This part of the coast marks the meeting point of the Calvià and Andratx towns.

An untouched U-shaped sea area ends at this small cove, which is bordered by medium-height cliffs and a stream. This creates a tranquil scene, surrounded by pine trees. The beach is 80 meters long and 5 meters wide.

Snorkeling in this area is quite beautiful, and the water is generally calm. In September, you can observe octopuses, gilthead bream, castanets, obladas, and needlefish.

There is a cave that cannot be swum through while snorkeling due to the lack of an air pocket inside. Only divers with special breathing equipment can explore it. It features a 30-meter corridor leading to an exit on the other side of the cape.

How to arrive:

From Andratx, take Avenida de Lluís Alemany to the MA1 road, then onto Andratx-Palma (MA1) road.

Turn onto Andratx-Peguera detour (MA1a) and continue to Peguera. At the entrance roundabout, take Cala Fornells street. Park by the hotel and walk 1 km along marked paths.

This island is situated not even a kilometer away from the western coast of Mallorca, in the Andratx area.

It is a natural park where you can find many plants and animals that only live here. One special creature is the small lizard called the “dragon,” which gives the island its name. The park is about 3,200 meters long and 500 meters wide.

Snorkeling in this area provides the opportunity to witness a wide diversity of marine life.

How to arrive:

The only way to access Sa Dragonera island is by boat.

Snorkel in Mallorca: Cala Sant Vicenc

This is the name of a tourist destination that was once a fishing town. It is located in Pollensa, to the north of Mallorca, near the Tramuntana mountains.

Cala Sant Vicenc has four coves surrounded by rocky formations and cliffs. The largest cove, Cala Molins, has clear waters and a beach composed of very fine sand. Its inviting clear waters are ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts.

How to arrive:

To reach Cala Sant Vicenc, follow signs to the urbanization near Pollença. Use the Ma-2200 road from Pollença to its port by car or take a bus (15 mins). There’s free parking and a bus stop 50 meters away. Note that parking can be crowded in summer.

This beautiful cove is close to Sa Calobra Cove and is situated 40 km from the town of Soller, in the northwest of Mallorca.

Cala Tuent measures 100 meters in length and 32 meters in width. The seabed is composed of stones and coarse gravel.

The highway is dangerous; therefore, it’s recommended to arrive by boat. If you choose this option, you can also visit the neighboring Sa Calobra Cove.

While snorkeling here, you will be able to observe a diversity of marine life, including sea urchins, octopuses, and crabs.

How to arrive:

From Escorca, take the Ma 10 road towards Soller. After about 6.2 km, turn right onto the Ma 2141 road towards Sa Calobra. Please note that this road is dangerous.

Continue until you reach a crossroads at kilometer 10.900, where you’ll turn left towards Cala Tuent. Drive along a similar road for 4,600 meters to reach the cove.
