5. Playa de L’ Ahuir (Gandia)

Not many virgin beaches exist nowadays in the Mediterranean, and Playa de L’Ahuir is one of them. It’s located in Gandia, about 67 km south of the city of Valencia. The exact location of this naturist beach is between Gandia Beach and Xeraco Beach, delimited with signs.

This beautiful fine sandy beach extends for 2 km and is 120 m wide. Dunes and forests of native vegetation constitute a special and safe home for many different plants and animals. These forests also shield the beach from powerful waves during winter storms, helping to safeguard the ecosystem that has developed around the beach.

To protect the environment and prevent people from crossing them, there are wooden walkways to protect the dunes. These pathways also provide access to the beach.

Playa de L’Ahuir is one of the few beaches along the Mediterranean coast with shallow areas where sandbanks can emerge, forming small islands. Ocean currents and river deposits form these sandy areas along the coast, forming a boundary between the sea and the land area.

The beach offers police safety, Red Cross assistance, foot washers, showers, and parking. It has obtained all the required Quality and Environmental Certificates and holds the 2023 Blue Flag Certification. Smoking is not allowed, but dogs are permitted.

As the beach tends to be windy, windsurf competitions are held here, attracting surfers as well.

This beautiful natural cove is located 5 km north of the city of Villajoyosa in Alicante, approximately 150 km south of Valencia.

The cove is relatively small, less than 100 m wide, and divided into two parts by a rocky outcrop. There are cliffs around and small coastal mountains covered in pine trees and bushes.

Beneath the water’s surface, there exists a significant Posidonia oceanica meadow, a marine plant crucial for maintaining clean and clear water. It is essential to protect this plant as causing harm to it is against the law.

The naturist history of this cove dates back to the 1970s and has been recognized as a meeting spot for the LGBTQ+ community. However, due to increased exposure on social media, it has transitioned into a clothed beach.
