Cala Figuera Beach: All You Need to Know

Cala Figuera Beach is a beautiful cove just 10 kms from the port of Pollensa in northern Mallorca. Do not confuse it with the other Cala Figuera located near Santanyi, southeast of the island. In this blog, I will list everything you need to know about Cala Figuera Beach in the north.

Where is Cala Figuera Beach

This quiet and beautiful cove is located north of Mallorca, close to the port of the city of Pollensa.

Pollensa Port is 60 km from the capital, Palma, and 10 km from the coastal town of Alcudia.

How to Get to Cala Figuera Beach

From Palma

To reach Cala Figuera beach from Palma takes about 1 h 10 min by car, via the Ma-13 road.

From Pollensa Port

To reach Cala Figuera beach from Port of Pollensa, head towards Formentor Lighthouse. At km 13.5, you will see a sign for Cala Figuera beach.

Park at the car park near the turnoff to Cala Murta, and a short 15-minute walk down the mountain path will take you to the beach. It is recommended to wear good shoes to walk on the rocks.

In July and August, the road to the Formentor Lighthouse is closed from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. However, you can still get there by taking bus line 353 from Playa de Formentor or from the port of Pollensa with a change.

Cala Figuera Beach

Cala Figuera is a U-shaped small beach nestled between high cliffs. The cove is virgin and isolated, surrounded by lush vegetation and pine tree forests. Its crystal-clear turquoise waters offer a majestic landscape.

The beach, made of sand, pebbles and rocks, is 45 meters long and 40 meters wide.

Its seabed alternates between sandy areas and rocky patches adorned with marine vegetation. Anemones, sea urchins, starfish, and various fish species offer a great sight.

At the same time, you will hear the birds singing in the forest – truly a delight for your eyes and ears!

It’s a great choice to escape the crowds in other parts of the island. You can go on a day trip and spend a serene day in contact with nature. Don’t forget water and good shoes.

Since it is away from general services and because of the rocky terrain, it may not be suitable to take kids wth you.

Services:

Since Cala Figuera Beach is a virgin cove, we cannot expect any kind of service around. The only facility is the nearby parking, which I have already mentioned.

Access:

After parking, you will find the steps which will lead you to the beach.

Some adventurers choose to descend from a point which is 1400 meters high on rocky terrain and among low bushes. This route takes about half an hour, and it’s recommended to wear good shoes. The ascent back may be challenging, so be careful not to get lost.

Boats:

Cala Figuera Beach allows boat anchoring, but beware of north/northeast winds for maneuvering.

Seabed depth is about 5 meters at 250 meters from the coast. Enter between the two islets on the left. The nearest port facility is Puerto de Pollença, 10 nautical miles away.

Cala Murta

To reach the beach, take the road from Pollença to Formentor Lighthouse. It stretches for about 20 km with very sharp curves and magnificent views.

On the way, you will encounter a viewpoint called the Mirador del Colomer. I recommend that you stop there to observe the breathtaking scenery and take some photos.

At the Cala Figuera bus stop, turn right onto the 2-kilometer wide path to Cala Murta. It’s a pleasant 25-minute walk, passing Cala Murta camp and descending to the cove.

There is plenty of vegetation all along your way, with oaks and palms surrounding you. You may encounter donkeys, but don’t worry, they are friendly. Just be aware of goats; they are experts at stealing food when people are taking a bath.

Cala Murta is 85 meters long and 25 meters wide, entirely covered with pebbles. As it is also an idyllic virgin beach don’t expect to find any kind of service.

The seabed is made of sand and pebbles. It’s very recommendable to practice snorkeling.

On the right side of the cove there is a path that leads to a viewpoint. It is known as Es Castellet and you can reach there in a quick 5-minute walk. It is a great place for amazing views of the bay of Alcudia, the Formentor coast and beauiful mountains around.

Cala Murta is perfect for boat anchoring since it is protected from north winds. The average depth is 5 meters at the buoy line and 10 meters at the cove’s entrance. Therefore, large sailboats won’t be found nearby due to the small entrance.

Cala Murta is another wonderful place to enjoy nature when you are near Cala Figuera Beach.

2. Visit Formentor Beach

Formentor Beach is only 5 kms away from Cala Figuera Beach. If you’re coming from Port Pollensa, head towards Formentor Lighthouse. Along the way, you’ll pass through the Colomer viewpoint and then descend to reach Formentor Beach.

The majority of the tourists who arrive at this beach are those visiting the Formentor Cape. This cape marks the northernmost part of Mallorca and is famours for its iconic ligthouse.

This sandy beach is long and narrow, measuring 1 km in length and 20 meters in width. Since it is a well-known tourist destination, it’s fully equipped with every service.

The calm sea and shallow waters make it perfect for families with kids. It’s also great for practicing snorkel. An islet close to the beach acts as a barrier against the waves.

You will find a good selection of hotels and luxurious residential areas around.

3. Explore the beautiful town of Pollensa

Pollensa is a charming old town with a very rich history. Muslims, Romans, and the Knight Templars have left their mark on Pollensa.

I suggest taking a walk along its narrow and charming streets, and visiting the Plaza Mayor, or main square. There you will find a solemn-looking 17th century Baroque-style church. Around the plaza, several terraces invite you to sit and watch people pass by.

Port of Pollensa

The port of Pollensa is one of the most active marinas in Mallorca. Here, you can enjoy numerous water activities and take leisurely strolls. It’s a delightful place to savor local cuisine by the sea.

4. Visit Cala Sant Vicenc

This town is located less than 8 km away from the town of Pollensa. You can reach it in about 15 minutes via the Ma-2023 road. It’s a place you shouldn’t miss if you have the time.

In Cala Sant Vicenc, there are four coves. Many people confuse the name of the town and attribute it to the area of the coves. These small coves are: Cala Carbó, Cala Molins, Cala Clara, and Cala Barques.

Cala Sant Vicenc
Cala Sant Vicenc

In the past, Cala Sant Vicenc was a traditional fishing village. Nowadays, there is a wide range of hotels and services available, allowing you to have a pleasant time in the area.

Please note that since the town is situated on a mountain, you will frequently encounter uphill and downhill slopes.

The beach is equipped with all necessary services, including a lifeguard and a disabled walkway.

Due to the fact that the coves are not sheltered, swimming is prohibited on windy days due to the high waves.
