Alcudia Markets: All You Need to Know

When traveling to the north of Spain, one of the best things to do, if you are nearby, is to visit the Alcudia markets. You will spend a fun time admiring all the stuff offered while, at the same time, strolling the beautiful streets of the Old Town. Join me on this adventure through the beautiful town of Alcudia!

When and Where Do the Alcudia Markets Take Place?

These traditional Alcudia markets take place all year long, every Tuesday and Sunday morning from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. They are primarily set at the Passeig de la Mare de Deu de la Victoria. During the high season (June, July and August) these markets spread from this street inside the city walls throughout the narrow alleys of the old town.

There are also night Alcudia markets taking place at the Passeig Maritim of the port. These run from beginning of June to the end of September from Wednesday to Saturday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

What Products are Sold at the Alcudia Markets?

There are 450 stands at the Alcudia markets. Like me, you will feel fascinated by the products of the region put on sale by the local farmers. I found fresh vegetables to prepare salads and delicious fruits such as strawberries, apricots, grapes, melon, and watermelon.

Not only will you be buying fresh produce, but at the same time, you will be supporting local farming and producers of high-quality artisan products. Look for the delicious cheese, as well as olives, olive oil, hams, sausages, and wine.

These markets don’t engage only in the selling of food. There are many stalls spread throughout the streets selling leather products such as shoes and bags. Clothing, jewelry, baskets, wooden toys, and souvenirs are also in great demand. However, I advise you to be cautious when shopping for would-be bargains since some items could be sold more expensively at the market stalls than in the shops along the seafront.

How to Get to the Alcudia Markets?

On market days, there is a bus service connecting Port d’Alcúdia with the city center. If you arrive by car, you will be able to find free parking options on-site.

The market can also be easily reached on foot from the port or the beach.

Check here for directions on how to get from your location.

Walking around the Old Town

The Alcudia markets are placed in a lovely setting: the picturesque streets of the Old Town.

Alcudia was founded by the Romans around 70 years B.C. The ruins from those days, known as the Roman City of Pollentia are set between the city and the port and are open to visitors. Later, the Moorish occupation left traces of their art and style still visible in some large houses in the city.

When I arrived there, I came to know that no other Spanish town still keeps its medieval wall in its totality as Alcudia does. During the 13th and 14th centuries, pirate attacks were rampant in coastal cities. To defend Alcúdia, King Jaume II built 6-meter-high walls with 26 towers and a moat in 1360.
