Mallorca Itinerary: When to Go on a Road Trip
Consider spring (from the end of March to the end of June) as the best time to plan your Mallorca itinerary. The days are longer, with pleasant temperatures ranging from 63°F (17°C) to 72°F (22°C), and there are only five rainy days per month. It is the favored season for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling.
On the other hand, when planning a Mallorca itinerary, bear in mind that summer is crowded with tourists, and finding affordable accommodation prices becomes difficult. If you are planning a hiking or cycling trip, it is highly recommended to avoid summer. Daytime temperatures can reach around 86°F (30°C).
Mallorca Itinerary: How to Get to Mallorca
By Air
You will start your Mallorca itinerary in Palma, the capital of Mallorca, which is located in the south of the island. I recommend booking your flight through Wayaway as they offer competitive prices for air tickets, which can help you save money.
By Ferry
If you are traveling from southern France, there is a ferry route from Toulon to Alcudia in the north of the island. This option is especially practical if you have your own car.
About Driving in Mallorca
If you need to rent a car it is advisable to choose a small one to facilitate your maneuvering since the roads and streets in towns are generally quite narrow.

Mallorca Itinerary: Road Trip through Sierra de Tramuntana
The Sierra de Tramuntana or Tramuntana Mountains is the primary mountain range of the Balearic Islands, serving as the backbone of Majorca. With Puig Mayor as its highest peak at 1,445 meters, it is a must-visit destination.
Here are all the steps of a Mallorca itinerary through this route:
Palma
Our route on this Mallorca itinerary starts in Palma, the capital of Mallorca. Highlights include the Palma Cathedral, the charming streets of the old town, the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art, and the beaches among others.
The Gothic Cathedral is more than 700 years old and is a landmark of the city.
I recommend obtaining a Skip the Line Palma Cathedral entry ticket in advance. This way, you will avoid the crowds and save time.
I also highly recommend this Guided Walking Tour of the Old Town, with which I explored in a group and in a very entertaining way the main points of interest in the city.
Where to Stay in Palma
Hipotels Playa de Palma Palace & Spa is a 5-star hotel near Playa de Palma beach (200 meters away). Spa with beauty treatments, hamman, and sauna (extra cost). Free hot tub and fitness center. Bike hire available. Parking on-site. Popular for cycling.

Andratx
Andratx is about 25 minutes from Palma. There is a beautiful combination of coast, forests, and mountains around it.
A visit of the old historical town of Pantaleu, with its narrow and cobblestoned streets, is a must.
The charming fishing village of Port Andratx, with a population of no more than 4,000, has rapidly transformed into an exclusive tourist destination. It offers beautiful beaches and excellent dining options.
Don’t miss Sa Dragonera Island, a nature park named after its abundant lizard population. The island offers various hiking trails that lead through beautiful landscapes. Moreover, if you’re interested in snorkeling in Mallorca, this is an excellent option to consider.
If you want to have some fun and sightsee Andratx in a different way, you can do so by booking an Andratx Quad Sightseeing Tour through a finca area and great vantage points.
Where to Stay in Andratx
Aparthotel La Pergola is located near Camp de Mar and Sant Elm beaches, and just 700 meters away from the harbor of Port d’Andratx. Outdoor swimming pools, right off the beaches of south-west Majorca. Parking available.

Estellencs
After visiting the region of Andratx, on this Mallorca itinerary we arrive at Estellencs.
Strolling through its streets, we encounter medieval remnants such as the stunning 17th-century church, featuring a distinctive defensive tower housing the bell tower. Like every old town in Mallorca, the streets are narrow, cobbled, and feature historic architecture. There are several metal sculptures adorning the streets of Estellencs.
Cala Estellencs is no more than an hour’s walk from the town through a circular route.
Where to Stay in Estellencs
Sa Plana Petit Hotel features a seasonal outdoor pool amidst attractive gardens and olive trees. Rooms offer sea or mountain views. Ideal location, close to Cala Estellencs Beach and perfect for exploring the beautiful Estellencs Valley. Parking available.

Banyalbufar
This charming coastal town is very small and does not have mass tourism. It showcases 16th-century Majorcan architecture and is surrounded by Malvasia vineyards, from which it produces exceptional wine. A visit to the vineyards is a must in this Mallorca itinerary.
The town and its neighboring villages in the area are scenic and offer breathtaking mountain views. Exploring the region by car is highly recommended as the winding roads provide opportunities to savor awe-inspiring landscapes.
Do not miss a walk to Banyalbufar’s cove and port. The path is steep but rewarding, offering great views. The cove is rocky, so bring water shoes for swimming. You can also enjoy a beautiful waterfall there.
Valldemossa
Following our Mallorca itinerary, we arrive in Valldemossa, perhaps the most beautiful town on the route. It was already considered “the most beautiful place on earth” by Frederic Chopin, who spent some time there in the 19th century.
Here we visit the Real Cartuja de Valldemossa, a huge complex where the main attraction is the church. Also, visit the Chopin museum located in cell number 4 of the Cartuja, where he and George Sand lived during their stay in Valldemossa. Chopin composed several of his music pieces there, and we can still see the piano he ordered to be brought there from Paris.
Port Valldemossa is a hidden gem in this Mallorca itinerary. The drive down from Valldemossa offers breathtaking views on a narrow and curved road.
Where to Stay in Valldemossa
Agroturismo Son Viscos offers stylish, air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi and antique furniture. You can enjoy a traditional Mallorcan breakfast on the charming terrace with monastery and mountain views. It is only a 25-minute drive to Port de Soller beaches.
Book your stay at Agroturismo Son Viscos here
Bunyola
This is another pleasant town that we encounter in our Mallorca itinerary. Like the previous ones along the way, its streets are narrow with steep slopes and stone-made houses.
I suggest taking the time to visit Raixa, a possession of Arab origin and an old Islamic farmhouse, as well as the Gardens of Alfabia.
If you are a beer lover, there is a craft beer factory in Bunyola where you can learn how to brew beer. Book a Brewing and Beer Tasting Experience in Bunyola here.
Where to Stay in Bunyola
Agroturismo Alqueria Blanca, a former Moorish farmhouse turned into a quaint hotel, respects Majorcan heritage while offering maximum comfort. It’s a serene rural retreat with a tiled pool and beautiful gardens. Close to Alfabia Gardens for added charm.

Deiá
This lovely town in our Mallorca itinerary has a bohemian environment that attracts not only artists but also celebrities. It is known for having been the residence of the famous British writer Robert Graves, author of the renowned novel I, Claudius, who lived and died in Deia.
I suggest not missing the viewpoint of Son Marroig, from where you will get great views of the Sa Foradada peninsula and its rock, from which it takes its name. Sa Foradada means “pierced rock.” The viewpoint at Son Marroig is one of the best spots to appreciate the sunset on this road trip in Mallorca.
Alaró
The Old Town is the heart of this small village. Its main attraction is the ruins of a castle that is over 1000 years old, located on top of the town. It is also a great location to observe the entire Sierra de Tramuntana.
Look for Llucalcari Cove near Deia, a hidden gem of beauty in our Mallorca itinerary. Also known as Es Canyeret, this tranquil cove offers a serene atmosphere perfect for leisurely walks. And nearby, look for Cova Fosca, another gem on the way.
Soller
The town of Soller is also considered one of the prettiest in Spain. Soller experienced a strong connection with France for a long time due to the export of its oranges and wine to the port of Marseille. This influence is evident in the Gothic cathedral of San Bartomeu, as well as other buildings in the city.
From Soller train station, a short walk leads to the tram heading to Port of Soller – the only beach in the northwestern part of the island. The port offers maritime excursions on your Mallorca itinerry and a hike to Cape Gros lighthouse for stunning views.
Where to Stay in Port of Soller
The Aimia Hotel is a small boutique hotel in front of the beach. The rooms are equipped with a private terrace. It features an indoor pool, and a restaurant serving gourmet-style cuisine. It has a large window with views over the Tramuntana Mountains.
Book your stay at the Aimia Hotel here
Fornalutx
The next step in our Mallorca itinerary is Fornalutx. This town was the first in Mallorca to be included in the list of “The Most Beautiful Spanish Towns”. Every corner and street is a picturesque setting for artistic photographs.
Fornalutx is located in the enchanting valley of Soller, nestled at the base of Puig Mayor, the tallest peak of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.
Where to Stay in Fornalutx
The Hotel Can Verdera is a boutique hotel set in a traditional stone townhouse. It is situated on a quiet street, just a minute’s walk from the village square with its cafes, restaurants, and other amenities. It has an outdoor swimming pool and beautiful gardens

Pollensa
Pollensa was founded by the Romans in the first century AD as the capital of the Balearic Islands. There are still remains of a Roman aqueduct that supplied water to the town.
From the top of the historic church El Calvario, you can obtain breathtaking views of this captivating area on your Mallorca itinerary. You will have to climb 365 stone steps; however, once you arrive, you will feel that it was worth the effort.
For a thorough and guided hiking private tour, you can choose from a wide variety of options, all of which start in Pollensa. These include bouldering, canyoning, and scrambling. Book your Hiking Private Tour in Pollensa here.
The port offers water activities. You can explore San Vicente Beach and, on the way to Formentor, the coves (calas) of Murta and Figuera.
There is a highly recommended 2-hour boat round-trip from Cala Figuera, which will take you close to cliffs and ancient caves. The boat passes by the fishing town of S’Almunia and disembarks on the pristine beach of Cala Marmol, perfect for taking a swim.

Cap de Formentor
Our road trip in this Mallorca itinerary across the Tramuntana mountains ends on the island’s northernmost peninsula, Cap or Cabo de Formentor. To reach there will require some time, as the road features many curves and often experiences heavy traffic.
From Pollensa you have to follow the MA2210 road. However, notice that between June 15 and September 15, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.the route is close for private cars. The only way to arrive is with the TIB islands’ bus service, specifically buses 333 and 334. These buses operate every 35 minutes, and the journey takes about 50 minutes.
The Formentor Lighthouse stands at an elevation of 617 ft (188 meters) and offers a spectacular vantage point to admire the wonderful natural surroundings. There are bathrooms and a cafeteria.
Formentor Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Mallorca. Its crystal-clear waters and pine forests make it feel like a paradise.
