Unlike the nude beaches in Mallorca or the nude beaches in Ibiza and Valencia, some of the most beautiful nude beaches in Tenerife are of volcanic origin, just like the island itself. You can discover not only black sandy beaches but also ones with golden sand. Below, you will find a comprehensive list and information about nudist beaches in Tenerife.
Nude Beaches in Tenerife: South
1. La Tejita Beach
This is one of the longest beaches in Tenerife, stretching 1000 meters in length and 30 meters in width. You will find it in front of El Médano, a town famous for its strong winds. El Médano belongs to the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, located to the south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (a 2-hour and 30-minute drive by car).
At La Tejita, you will find areas for families, as well as spots that are more popular among young people and couples. The nudist area is in a small cove at the foot of the volcano Montaña Roja. If you enjoy hiking, one of the three routes leading to the volcano’s summit starts from La Tejita.
La Tejita is an isolated beach, and for lunch, the nearest place to go is Los Abrigos, a charming seaside town. I strongly recommend trying authentic Spanish food at La Tasquita del Puerto. They offer a fixed-price menu for lunch or dinner at 15 Euros.
If you prefer seafood, dine where the locals do. Indulge in the delicious “Fish cooked in salt” or any of their other specialties at El Cangrejo de los Abrigos.
How to arrive:
If you have a rental car, simply head towards El Médano and take the exit for La Tejita beach. After a few kilometers, you’ll come across a parking area and a footpath leading to the beach. It’s approximately a 10-minute walk from there.
Where to stay:
Kn Hotel Arenas del Mar Adults Only rates 4 stars. It features an outdoor pool with sea views and a bar. The hotel has 2 restaurants, a cafe, and a pool bar. There’s also an entertainment disco. Suites come with a private balcony.
Hotel Médano rates 3 stars. The rooms at Hotel Médano are stylish, some featuring private balconies and ocean views. The restaurant offers ocean vistas, and packed lunches are available. The hotel has 4 sun terraces with views of Montaña Roja.
2. La Pelada Beach
This beach also falls under the jurisdiction of the Granadilla de Abona municipality. It’s one of the most beautiful nude beaches in Tenerife, located near a preserved area that features various types of vegetation.
The beach consists of a fine mixture of golden and black sand, stretching 80 meters in length and 20 meters in width. Since it’s an isolated beach, you won’t find any type of services. It’s a place of great scenic beauty, but it can be quite windy, so it’s advisable to be cautious with the waves.
How to arrive:
You will find La Pelada beach just beyond the end of the residential area of El Médano. If you’re walking from there, it might take about 40 minutes to reach the beach.
If you’re traveling by car, there is parking available not far from the beach, with space for no more than 50 vehicles. From there, it will only take you a few minutes to reach the beach
Where to stay:
Hotel Playa Sur Tenerife is a 3-star hotel located right in front of El Médano Beach. It boasts a seawater pool and a solarium with Balinese beds. The hotel offers both a buffet restaurant and an à la carte restaurant.
Finca La Barca comes highly recommended as a bed and breakfast (B&B). As you step through the main entrance, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful garden with palm trees and an outdoor swimming pool. The rooms are pleasant, and the environment is very welcoming.
3. Diego Hernández / Playa Blanca
This beach is situated in the municipality of Adeje, in the southwest of the island. It stretches for 200 meters in length and 25 meters in width.
This beautiful white sandy beach with calm waters is located within a naturally protected space with nearby vegetation.
Until a few years ago, it was known as the Hippies’ Beach. In 2020, the authorities demolished more than a hundred illegal constructions and cleaned the area, completely restoring it.
The environment is spectacular, and the sunsets are unforgettable. However, since it is in an isolated area, do not expect any services on the beach.
Not far from the beach is the Costa Adeje Golf Club.
For an authentic experience of local food, I recommend Bar Restaurante Casa Juan. You can enjoy delicious seafood dishes there. It is located in Adeje, at the junction of Viera y Clavijo Avenue and Constitucion Street.
How to arrive:
It takes approximately 20 minutes to walk from the beach of the fishing town known as El Puertito de Armeñime.
Where to stay:
Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort & Spa is rated with 4 stars. It offers both a buffet and an à la carte restaurant, along with a snack bar and several lounges. Rooms come with a balcony or terrace equipped with outdoor furniture. The property encompasses 12,000 m2 of gardens.
Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife is a luxurious beachfront hotel featuring 3 swimming pools and a saltwater lagoon. The hotel offers a spa, fitness center, as well as dining and entertainment facilities. Additionally, there are separate mini clubs for both children and teenagers.
Nude beaches in Tenerife: North
Some of the most exotic nudist beaches in Tenerife are those located in the north of the island. Most of them are hidden coves close to cliffs where naturism can be practiced in full quietude.
1. Los Patos
This beach belongs to the municipality of La Orotava in the northern part of Tenerife. It stretches for 900 meters in length and 45 meters in width.
The beach is wild and is surrounded by cliffs with lush green vegetation and mountains, all within a protected area.
A portion of the beach is covered in black volcanic sand, while another part is composed of rocks. The waters are clear and crystalline, but at times, the waves can become strong and potentially dangerous.
How to arrive:
If you’re coming from the northern highway, take the TF-176 exit that leads to El Rincón. Park your vehicle at the end of the road, near a bus stop. From this point, you’ll need to walk for approximately 30 minutes to reach the beach.
2. El Draguillo
This beach derives its name from a small village, El Draguillo, located on the Anaga coast in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It measures only 150 meters in length and 20 meters in width.
Those seeking isolated nude beaches in Tenerife often inquire about El Draguillo. The beach, with its black volcanic sand and gravel, is nestled at the base of a towering cliff. The waters are clean and clear. However, due to its exposure to the open sea, the waves are strong throughout the year.
How to arrive:
The only way to reach El Draguillo is by boat.
3. Las Gaviotas
This black volcanic sandy beach is located on the coast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.
Las Gaviotas is surrounded by mountains and experiences moderate waves. It spans 250 meters in length and 40 meters in width.
Please note that you shouldn’t expect to enjoy the sunset on this beach. The sun sets behind the mountains, casting the beach into shade.
How to arrive:
Arriving by car is quite straightforward; just follow the TH-121 road. Near the beach, you’ll find a parking area with space for approximately 50 vehicles.
4. Benijo Beach
This beach is located within the protected Anaga Park, in the northeast of Tenerife and adjacent to the village of Benijo.
It’s a natural black sandy beach that stretches for 300 meters in length and is 30 meters wide, featuring moderate waves. However, depending on the state of the sea, it can become dangerous due to strong currents and undertows.
Being an isolated and wild beach, you should not expect any kind of services in the vicinity.
How to arrive:
The nearest road is TF-134. Once you arrive, park your car alongside the road; there is space for approximately 50 vehicles. Access on foot is easy.
Where to stay:
Parador de las Canadas del Teide is a 3-star hotel located in La Orotava. It offers amenities such as a restaurant, a fitness center, and a swimming pool. For a truly memorable experience, consider requesting rooms with breathtaking views of the Teide volcano when making your booking.
Hotel Colon Rambla is a 4-star hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It’s situated in the heart of the city while being only 2 minutes away from the port. The hotel features a restaurant, a bar with a terrace, and an outdoor pool. It is conveniently located near the city’s main attractions.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: According to the Spanish Federation of Naturism, nudism is legal in all public spaces in Spain unless it’s expressly forbidden by a specific municipality. For example, in June 2023, the municipality of Ses Salines in Mallorca has forbidden nudism on its beaches.
The list of places given above is just a guide to popular naturist spots. Keep in mind that this list doesn’t guarantee the presence of other nudists.
I hope this blog proves useful to you. When visiting a nude beach, it’s important to remember that prolonged staring at others is considered impolite. Nudist beaches are not meant for people-watching or taking photos. Instead, embrace the peaceful atmosphere and connect with nature.
